Footprint guide
For heating with folding storage
Brod & Taylor Folding Proofer & Slow CookerA heat-only appliance folds down between bakes; check bowl fit inside.
A basket supports a shaped loaf. A container holds dough. A proofer controls its environment. Start with the job you need.
Banneton, brotform and proofing basket describe baskets used to support shaped dough. Choose a shape that connects to the baking vessel: a long basket does not make a round pot longer. Use an exact manufacturer dough range where one is given.
A lined bowl can fill the support role for a suitable round loaf. For an oval loaf, compare the shape and the manufacturer’s instructions for the support you plan to use. See proofing baskets and the dough-and-vessel checker.
A heat-only proofer cannot cool a warm room. A unit with heating and cooling covers a different need. Compare the specified operating range, usable interior, voltage and open/folded footprint.
For a steady kitchen, passive proofing support may be all you need. For a cold variable room, compare heating options. For a room that regularly runs warmer than your chosen setting, check an actively cooling model. None of these choices sets a fermentation schedule.
An exterior footprint tells you whether a proofer fits the counter. Its interior dimensions tell you whether a particular bowl, basket or tray fits inside. These are different measurements and are kept separate in product records.
For batch work, measure each container and its placement. For a small cupboard, check the folded size if the appliance folds. Explore proofing boxes before replacing a bowl or basket.
Mixing and bulk-fermentation containers hold the whole dough batch before division. The final-proof basket or pan holds one shaped loaf; compare those capacities separately.
Keep the equipment you own when it suits the job. Compare these options if you need something else.
